This week was a productive one! We have quite a few updates and improvements to share with you:
Since VR is a new feature for browsers, we believe it is important to educate new players and developers in the WebVR space about related topics:
The Learn VR Browser Game Development page gives developers a head start on how to get into VR development inside the browser. The WebVR page contains the basics on what VR in the browser is all about. You can now find Input Types underneath “Info” in the top navigation. And finally, Which VR Headset Should I get? lists recommendations for headsets for people looking to get into VR.
While this page has been around for a while, it was very hard to find it until now. Find out what features we have planned for Construct Arcade, which we are thinking about and which we are currently working on.
Filter by Input Type
Suppose you are using Google Cardboard. If you end up clicking into “Barrels”, you will notice you aren’t able to play it, because it requires 6-dof controller input! For someone with a desktop headset, Construct Arcade basically already provides a seamless experience. You can play any game and it should mostly work fine. Performance is always acceptible and you don’t end up in games you cannot actually play.
Being able to filter the main VR games listing by input type/interaction method is the first step to providing a more consistent experience for all VR users independent of their devices.
We strongly believe Construct Arcade made a great jump in usefulness this week, maybe the biggest since our initial release last October. We still have a long way to go until Construct Arcade is what we imagine it to be, but bear with us! Time will eventually heal rough edges and step by step small improvements will build up to something great.
If you have any suggestions on what you feel you need on Construct Arcade, or have any ideas on what could make it better, maybe even know a game that is missing in our collection, please join us in the Construct Arcade Forums, we would love to hear from you!
See you in the next blog and have a fantastic day, Jonathan from Construct Arcade
